Re: A few questions about car rental vs shared taxi and travelling in april.

Ala Kul lake trek, in my opinion impossible in April.
You can travel by marshrutkas and shared taxis in Kyrgyzstan, it comes cheap.

Re: Ride from Dushanbe to Nisur

There are very few vehicles that go as far upvalley from Rushon or from Khorog.
(I only went as far as Bardara by hiking and hitch hiking, many hours would pass without any vehicle at all).

Re: Pamir Highway on your own

There are no marshrutkas in the Pamirs. Only public 4WDs (with 7 passengers in general) and locally, some flimsy microbusses.
My experience on the long public 4WDs rides is that there wasn't much talk with the driver.
The seats at the back are less comfortable if you're tall.

Re: Pamir Highway on your own

Several public 4WDs leave Dushanbe each morning to Khorog, it takes all day, 12 or 13 hours if everything goes well. Khorog Iskashim yes regular public 4WDs also. After Iskashim public 4WDs are scarse, maybe one per day, but as everywhere fee hitch hiking is a normal way to travel, you must discuss ...

Re: Pamir Highway on your own

There is a border war, and extremely bad relations, between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. There are well ongoing discussions to resolve the issue ... Many inhabitants of the Murghab area are ethnic Kyrgyzs. And also Osh is much closer to Dushanbe from Murghab, so before the war people from Murghab woul...

Re: Pamir Highway on your own

Yes I've been there twice, mostly for hiking/trekking, only by public transport, hitch hiking (mostly fee) and on foot. You need time. But there is no public transport anymore between Murghab and Osh as locals are not allowed anymore to cross the border, as they used to do in the past. You will need...

Re: Planning hikes and accommodations in advance

No, you don't need to book anything in advance. You don't need a guide for Alakul, there will be many others on the trail. End of June, there may still be some difficult snow at the top of the pass. In the Ala Archa NP, no yurt stay but you can stay in the Ratsek mountain hut. A popular 3 day trek a...

Re: Arslanbob vs. Kara Alma vs. Kyzyl Ünkür

Kyzyl Unkur doesn't look at all like Arslanbob. Not such a good base for hikes ... Locals go to this valley for fishing.
Kyzyl Oi is a possible choice.

Re: Advice on 25 day itinerary - Bukhara to Bishkek

The CBT can arrange it locally. You can do day hikes by yourself. Beware if you go trekking to the Holy Lakes, Friendship Pass (sometimes also called Tourist Pass) is hazardous, even with a guide.

Re: 25 day itinerary - Bukhara to Bishkek

Day 12 Arslanbob to Song Kul in one day, that seems very optimistic.
