Bicycle on train in Kazakhstan (Aktau - Almaty)

After taking the ferry over the Caspian sea, we want to travel from Aktau (Mangistau) to Almaty with train.
We are travelling with bicycle and are wondering if anyone has experience with taking a bicycles on this trains.

I've already read that "Lots of people have been able to transport their bicycle on the train for a fee, but the solution is very likely to involve a lot of discussion and ad hoc problem-solving."

Because of unknown delays of the ferry, we are unable to book tickets in advance. Will this be a problem, this time of the year?

This time of year trains will not book out, you won't have to wait in Aktau. Should be space for your bike (somewhere:-)
