Recommended hotel or hostel in Aktau and Aktobe?
Any recommendation for budget accomodation in Aktau? Booking.com options looks miserable in terms of rating/distance

Since your topic mentions Aktobe, too: I stayed at the Amsterdam Hotel in Aktobe. It's a bit over the top (as so much in Aktobe), but the room was fine and breakfast was included for 37€ (single room). It's within walking distance of the Nurgasyr Regional Central Mosque. Would return if I'm ever in Aktobe again - which is kind of unlikely...

What are you going once in Aktau / Aktobe ? I'm wondering to go there from Baku, and then to go to Aral Sea.

We are staying in a nice hostel in Shepte, 143km from Kuryk, where the ferry comes from Baku. We would definitely recommend it. We have just come from Muynak and the Aral Sea yesterday. It is worth coming to see

Mango Hostel is quite good, especially the location. They also offer private rooms if you message them on Instagram or WhatsApp or ask in person. The "room" we are staying in doesn't have walls all the way up to the ceiling though. Therefore it might have more of a dorm feeling if there is someone in the second room. But all in all it's good value for money!

Aktau for around 50-80€ (depending on season, luck, negotiation skills):
- Holiday Inn City (especially with an executive upgrade)
- Holiday Inn Seaside
- Renaissance (rooftop pool!)
- Grand Victory (it's rather on the meh side, but the rooftop panorama restaurant is really nice for work — and they have a pool!)

Not aure if this comment is of any value, but I got so depressed from the aktau hostels that I thought of leaving the same day. But then I coincidentally ran into a couchsurfing host. Try couchsurfing!

In 2019 I stayed in Zelenaya Hotel, which is a bit south of the center (but within walking distance of what to me looked like the main square) and rather close to the sea. I remember many portraits of Soviet era movie- and TV-stars hanging on the walls of the reception and of the stairways (it must have been a passion of the lady who managed it), and -apart from this- it wasn't bad. I don't remember the details, except that at the time I booked it through Booking.

I can also recommend the Mango hostel! The lady was very nice, although she doesn’t speak English at all. Have to communicate via google translate, unless you speak Russian of course. Nearby there’s also a good cafe, Mr Ponchuk. Does very good coffee and food.
Mango hostel also recommended a travel agency to me for visiting some of the beautiful nature of the Mangystau region. The tour company is called Mangystau safari and the tours were actually really good. Definitely stay a couple of nights in Aktau in order to visit the Mangystau region. Bozzhira is amazing, as is Ybyk canyon.

Mango hostel is great I concur! The lady is very sweet and eager to help. The location is perfect, there’s a big grocery store and a ATM right next door and it’s basically right next to the sea. I recommend!
