Hi.
Hoping to pick your brains about my flight options.
Putting it in Kazakhstan thread, as I want to get to Almaty - but happy to fly into Astana / Tashkent / Bishkek - if that saves money. An open-jaw ALA/TAS would be great...
Flying out of the UK (London/Birmingham) circa mid August to mid September.
I would also like to tag-on another 1-2 Asian destinations for one week each.
There used to be a time when many (especially smaller) airlines used to stop-over in Tashkent / Almaty / Bishkek on route to many Asian / Australian destination.
The regular direct flights with Kazakhstan / Uzbekistan Airlines LON to TAS/ALA are circa €630-$650, return.
I don't want to stop-over in Turkey - so I am dismissing the Turkish, AJet and Pegasus etc. But I do understand that they are cheaper!
I simply noticed that KZ and HY have onward destinations such as ICN / TYO / BKK etc.
Their prices are about €950-€1100 return LON-ALA-ICN eg.
I was simply wondering if I can visit other Asian countries (BUT NOT Azerbaijan, India, Pakistan or China) as well. As a classic permitted stop-over?
I am very open-minded - and don't mind the €1000 (maximum) price-tag - but would expect something like LON-ALA-BKK-ICT-HKG-TAS-LON or something similar?
Maybe I am a little old-school, but back in the 90s / 00s Aeroflot / Airlanka / Philippines / Gulf Air used to be super cheap AND used to allow stop-overs galore...
flight options with a stop-over lay-over in ALA or NQZ or even TAS?
Re: flight options with a stop-over lay-over in ALA or NQZ or even TAS?
Mhm - difficult, I think. I've previously looked into combining Malaysia with Central Asia, and didn't get very far. Things are gradually picking up between Central Asia and Southeast Asia, but connections are still somewhat limited. There's AirAsia and Batik Air from Tashkent to Kuala Lumpur, for example, but they are not exactly cheap, even though they are budget airlines. AirAsia also does ALA - KUL. I don't know of any airlines that would have the kind of stopovers in Astana / Tashkent / Bishkek that you describe. So you'd have to backtrack to places you don't want to go (Turkey, Qatar, Dubai and the like) if you wanted to do Central Asia and Southeast Asia (or thereabouts) on the same airline.
In the end, I did an overland trip from Osh (Kyrgyzstan) to Kuala Lumpur, mostly by train. But this involved China, which you don't want to visit...

want good price but so many self imposed restrictions. how is that open minded? and comparing with aviation trend from 30+ yrs ago?!
the countries you dont want to go are the countries that offer the best options just like prior poster said
so many filipinos and south asians (they are not sri lankans, they are mostly indians, bangladeshis, and nepali) in the gulf countries as low level service and construction workers, doing the work no locals want to do. their flights cant be priced that high or these ppl cant afford to go home
