Ticovac vaccine

I recently had a consultation over the phone with a doctor about getting vaccinated for Central Asia. He said that he thought preventative measures would be enough regarding protection against ticks and said I could forego getting the Ticovac vaccine.
He said he was getting his information from the CDC. I'd like to get a few more opinions on this topic from people who are experienced with travelling in the region.

If I ever make it there, I plan to visit the part of Altai that is in East Kazakhstan, around Markakol Lake and the mountains and woods thereabouts.
