We are going to rent a car and drive to the Charyn Canyon in August. Our plan is to stay overnight at the Ecopark so that we can see the sunrise and the sunset. Unfortunately, they do not respond to emails or instagram messages. Does anybody know how to get in contact with them/book a yurt in advance? Or is it not necessary?
The second part of our trip will be visiting Big Almaty Lake. Any advice/warnings about the entry procedures there? I remember reading that they could be problematic.
Yurts at Charyn Canyon
Re: Yurts at Charyn Canyon
Hi,
I think it's best to call them. You should book ahead. August is not peak season (very hot) but it could still be full, especially on weekends.
Currently there are no issues at BAL, so you should be able to drive up.

Hello all,
We are planning next week Friday to rent a car in Almaty around noon and drive to Charyn canyon. Not sure if we will stay in Charyn canyon yurts or drive further. I presume we can be in there around 4-5PM, sun sets around 7:30PM. In case there is no available acommodation directly in that Eko park, is there something close nearby?

There is not much around, I think maybe there was a sign of some guesthouse or whatever but I cannot remember. When we were there a few weeks ago it was quite empty in eco park. The hot season sees less people. Still enough people in the canyon during the day though.

so no problem at all. we parked at the parking lot above near lookout (btw, new asphalt road is there, so no problem even with 2WD). No problem with acommodation at all - 8000 KZT per person in bungalow and 45000 KZT per yurt for 8 people. There is also "hotel", but can't remeber the price, i think around 12000KZT per person? Anwyay, maybe 10 guests were around on weekend, so no need to book in advance.
very nice place and quite - the starry night was beautiful. food is ok, nothing special, but you don't have any other option. Bring your own stuff if you need something better Also there is no signal at all once you descend to canyon.
