Buying a horse in Kazakhstan

Postby tom_willcox » Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:08 pm

I'm thinking about taking a trip to Kazakhstan and spending approximately a month exploring the Altai region on horseback.

Can anyone give me some ideas as to where i could buy and how much I might expect to pay to buy a horse? I'm thinking of potentially purchasing a main mount for riding and a pack horse for carrying supplies. I'm also open to renting them, but I'm assuming given the amount of time I'm planning to be there, it will probably be better to buy and then sell them before I leave??? Any ideas?

Hi Tom,
Unfortunately we won't have any information to give you but we are quite interested in any good advice on this topic!

There are some very interesting info here : ... azakhstan/
And as well this website about horses for sale in kazaksthan : ... hstan.html

We are planning on taking a trip accross Central Asia during a few months : departure from Kazaksthan in early June and westward route through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and so on.

When are you planning to leave? Will you be travelling alone?
