October in Kyrgyzstan & best entry/exit for "the stans"

Post by BeachPigeon »

I am planning to be in Georgia/Azerbaijan in Late August/Early September then plan to fly Baku to Almaty and head down into Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan for 2nd half of Sept and October and onto India afterwards. These plans are a part of a large around the world trip, so timelines are extremely flexible. A few questions below:

If I am in Kyrgyzstan in October, is it still possible to stay in yurt camps in some of the more desolate, high pasture, and beautiful locations? Is horseback riding still available?

Almaty seems to be the highest traffic airport in the area, thus offering the cheapest flights into “the stans”. Any other recommendations for getting to this area? Please note I have a US passport so traveling through Iran, Turkmenistan, and Russia seems a bit more difficult.

Similarly, I plan to move onto India after exploring “the stans”. What are the cheap/convenient airports to fly out of to get to New Delhi? Almaty to New Delhi? The overland route of Western China/Pakistan doesn’t seem like a viable option considering money/time/US passport holder.

Open to suggestions and let me know if you have any more questions.

1. No
2. Bishkek probably has the cheapest flights

Like, it is impossible to stay in a yurt in October? How late into September is it possible?

Or is it just weather isn't great and there arent many offerings?

Perhaps there are some yurts available, but shepherds are at home during this time. Weather is definitely going to be freezing and snowy, but not snowy enough to get out the winter yurts for skiing yet.
