I'll be attending the World Nomad Games this Sept in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk Kul
Just exploring my options to get there.
As the crow flies, Almaty to Cholpon-Ata would seem the shorter option but all routing systems suggest Almaty to Bishkek to Cholpon-Ata.
I'm Ok with this but wondering if the shorter route from Almaty to Cholpon-Ata is viable by marshrutka or shared taxi or by any other means.
All about Kyrgyzstan.

Hi Brian, there is no border between Almaty and Cholpon-Ata, only 4000m-high mountains. You will have to go around via Karkara valley or Bishkek.
