Hi!
Sorry for this very specific subject.
I am currently in Kochkor. I'm on a horse riding tour that ends on August 31 and I will be in Cholpon-Ata for WNG on September 2 (or 3, as I couldn't secure tickets for the opening ceremony).
Therefore I have a two to three days gap to fill, anf I was considering several options:
- Tash-Rabat looks cool but it seems complicated to organize on a whim at a reasonable cost, plus it would take me really far from Cholpon-Ata
- Chong Kemin looks amazing but a bit hard to reach.
- Balykchy is right on the way and has a few hiking options but lacks any charm.
- Karakol would seem like an obvious choice but I'm afraid a single full day there would be too short.
- do something else around Kochkor for two more days.
Any thoughts?
My goal would be to do day hikes, in a small group or by myself.
Thanks!
Two days gap between Kochkor and Cholpon-Ata

Sorry, saw this too late, but you were right in diagnosing the issue. There are more treks and horse rides around Kochkor, either with a guide or get a map from CBT and do it yourself.
Boom canyon is another option, otherwise rafting is fun for a day.
