Hi all,
I'll be travelling through Pakistan for 2-2.5 weeks early June (4 pax), and am looking to rent a car without a driver for ~9 days out of Gilgit (around Baltistan).
I'm not really getting anywhere with the rental shops I've contacted so far (mostly the ones which can be found online); it seems rather difficult to properly rent cars for self drive due to excessive insurance charges (something to do with import charges on cars imported from Afghanistan). Found some shady shops that will rent out, but with the above details I've got from the bigger shops, I'm not 100% comfortable with whether that is a smart move (having zero insurance).
Does anyone have experience with selfdrive in Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan) and/or does anyone have any recommendations as to where to rent a car?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Pakistan self drive car rental
I drove through pakistan in october, from iran border to chinese border on kunjerab pass and back to wagah border india. Nobody cares about insurance. iff you kill somebody, you are on your own. But certainly not compulsary to have insurance !! Driving from Gilgit up to the border is very beautiful, but hardly traffic overthere as the border is closed. Driving in Pakistan ?? Compared with India they are better drivers, but in the Himalaya beware of landslides who happen daily, espcially on the KKH where they buid dams and move the main road up in the mountains !!

I am currently researching companies that can offer 4x4 rentals in Pakistan. Once I find out anything I will post about it here.

You can only drive these vehicles within the Gilgit-Baltistan region because these are NCP vehicles (Non-Custom Paid). In other parts of Pakistan, these vehicles are considered illegalsaule wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 11:00 amYou can now book cars though Caravanistan via this link: https://caravanistan.com/car-rental/abdul/
