From what we've heard and seen over the last couple of months, only Russians and some citizens of Georgia, Azerbaijan or Armenia are able to cross by land. And even this is not 100% sure.

Official Russian Tourism Agency in Tbilisi told us in July 2021 if we were crazy trying to travel to Russia --or anywhere-- during this pandemic. Their opinion was Russia wouldn't open their borders for foreigners in a long, long time.

According to my info Kremlin now works on bilateral vax certificate recognition and within few months RUS should re-open for double vaxxed.

I just received official info from Russian embassy in Bratislava. Starting today Russia is once again issuing tourism visas. Please check info at your national embassy, consulate and visa center to see if same happens in your country, but if restriction is lifted for Slovakia its most likely lifted for entire EU.

Additional info: Russia requires PCR test no older than 72 hours for entrance. Russia does not recognize EU COVID pass, or vaccination certificate in general. Per my info mutual recognition between EU and RF of vaccine certificates is in works so hopefully this can change soon.

From 01.04.2021 russian boarder posts aber closed for foreigners holding Tourism-Visas. An entry to RUS is only possible by (direct) flight.

This is what offical websites state. But what´s the situation at the boarders really like? Can it be, that since April nobody with touristic intentions entered Russia via Car oder Bike?

Anyone has different infos about the real situation at the boarder posts? Anyone knows about plans to reopen the boarder in the near future?

In some cases, it depends on your nationality, but apart from a few exceptions, you can currently enter Russia only by plane if travelling with a tourist visa.

What about Business Visa holders? Can they enter Overland?

As I was told the restriction does also concern buissnes Visa holders. There is an uncertainty about privat visit Visa - its said, that they can enter. But no proof for this information.

I've postponed a moto-trip from France to Kirghizistan in 2020 and 2021 because of covid and it looks like the tension at the border between Ukrain and Russia is a bad news for 2022... I planned to cross over Russia on the way in and enter Ukrain from Russia on the way back...
I hope it will blow over, especialy for people over there.

Unfortunately not. Only Allegro trains between Helsinki and St. Peterburg started to run again. But only Finnish and Russian citizen are allowed to use them... what a stupid rule. Beside only option to enter for non-Russian citizens who don't fit any of the few exceptions (specialist work in RU, close family, ...) can't enter overland.
