India to Pakistan on public transport ?

Post by danto1 »

Hi!

I wanted to ask if anybody has recent information on ho to get from Dehli to Pakistan on public transport.
I checked flights - but the are all with a stop in between, over Dubai for example...
There used to be a Bus between Dehli and Lahore, but it seems like it has been suspended.
Anybody knows if a train still operates between the two countries?

Thank you!

I don't know the actual situation, but you can go to Amritsar, then to Wagah by public transport, then continue by public transport in Pakistan. That's what I did, long ago.

Public transportation can be used to go from India to Pakistan, although it is difficult and takes a while. The most popular method of travel is by train from India to the Pakistani border crossing at Wagah. The journey can then be completed by taking a cross-border bus from there. It is recommended to make the entire trip over night because it takes between 12 and 15 hours. Travel documentation such as a passport, a valid visa, and any other required permits must be in the possession of passengers. A visa is necessary for Pakistanis to enter India, just as it is for Indians to enter Pakistan. Different laws and rules could be in effect depending on the nation of origin. It is advised to confirm the most recent criteria for border crossing.

I crossed wagah border in october the other way, into India. With my own car. Its a very big border crossing, but there is hardly anyone, as Indian cant get Pak-VISA and reverse. I was the only car, all the others cross walking (and there was a german couple on bicycle. I think best option for you is take train to Amritsar, from there its 15 minutes to the border, even on an Uber wont be expensive. Do the border-formalities, and on PAK-side its again only 15 minutes to Lahore, take a Ricksha. . . It took me 5 hours from Lahore-city center to Amritsar city-center.

The train you're referring to used to run from Lahore to Atari (with onward connections to Amritsar and Delhi). It was withdrawn in 2020 due to Covid-19 and has not been reinstated yet.
