Visa for flight transfer through Baku airport ??

Hello,

I'm looking at potentially taking a flight from Aktau - Baku - Tehran. Transferring through Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport on a single ticket with Azerbaijan airlines. Not planning on leaving the airport, just transferred flights.

Do I need a transit visa for this does anyone know?

You do not.

You don't need a visa but someone will take your passport from you upon arrival and give it back to you at the departure gate as you leave. And no one will offer a word of explanation about this.

Hi emmeff, is this a recent development or an older story? I was last there October 2015 for a transit flight and nothing of the sort happened.
