Moynaq Q&A
Moynaq Q&A
We're going to be in Uzbekistan in September and are thinking about a day trip from Nukus to Moynaq. Does anybody have any recent experience of doing this ? All advice - how to get there and back, costs etc gratefully received. Thanks

Re: Moynaq
I would be interested to hear your experience, here is what I can offer you in terms of help:
In Nukus, shared taxis to Kungrad and Moynaq leave from the parking lot in front of the railway station. For transport towards Khiva, head for the old avtovokzal aka the South Bus Station (near the old Asaka-bank). To Kungrad and Khiva, it might take up to an hour for the cab to fill up with other people. Moynaq is even more difficult. Best to head for Kungrad and find another taxi to Moynaq from there.

Re: Moynaq
We did this today.
A car with driver was US$80, arranged by Jipek Joli hotel. The journey to Moynaq took ~2.5 hours. We spent about the same amount of time in Moynaq visiting the museum and the ships. On the return journey we called in at a Muslim cemetery (don't remember the name, wasn't very interesting). There were only 2 of us so a little expensive but easy and comfortable, with a 3rd person it would be perfect.
