Uzbekistan summer 2021

Post by Mr Svaso »

Hi everyone!
Central Asia calling again 8-)
I'm planning to move to Tashkent for a while this summer...for exploring country, living local vibes and maybe getting Turkmenistan if borders will reopen.
Wanted to ask you some important questions about...
1) Which cost of life in Tashkent compared to Bishkek or Almaty?
2) How my 30 days visa free will expire...can I leave country and immediately reenter?
3) As travel experts..do you think Uzbekistan will put new restrictions until June/August?
Thank you in advance for every feedback!

I do not have the answer for your questions, but I will use your topic because I am also going there in the summer.

In the Restrictions post, someone said there is just one land border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan open. I am citizen of one of the 32 countries that can use it. But is there any sort of public transport (bus, marshrutka, etc) that crosses it? As far I have seen, all international bus and train departures are still cancelled. How did you guys crossed that? Rented car?

Also, still on the topic of public transport: is it possible to go (and return, of course) with a marshrutka from Nukus to Muynaq? I don't think a taxi driver would like to get me there and back and stay the whole day with me looking around (or at least, for a price I can pay, haha)

Thank you!

Concerning the border crossing, although I have not been there since the pandemic: A very common way to cross Central Asian borders is to take a taxi or marshrutka until the border crossing, walk across the border, and catch a new taxi or marshrutka on the other side. No cross-border public transport needed, no rental cars either.

1) They are similar. You can live very cheaply or very expensively, it's up to you. But prices for basic services are cheap.

Thank you for your feedback, Steven! Have a further questions for you about weather conditions in summertime. Is the heat so suffocating or bearable cause of dry climate? Are overland borders with Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan reopened for tourists too?

Weather: it is very hot. Not sure what you are used to, but I don't like it. It's a dry heat, though. But still very hot.

For the latest info about current border openings, see https://caravanistan.com/coronavirus

@Steven what can I expect in the second half of August in terms of the weather ? When I visited in the second half of April, I loved the weather. Warm afternoons and slightly chilly evenings that required an extra layer of clothing. Can I expect the second half of August to be somewhat similar ? Thanks !

and be warned
this is average, not the highest

my experiences
viewtopic.php?p=36605#p36605

according to the following discusion in the topic linked above
about the theory and the reality
today i checked temperatures in iran east of kerman (on ventusky)
here
https://www.ventusky.com/pl/30.337;57.898
about 2 pm there was 51C
it is still 44C (actual local time is 21:58)

and there is no sea breeze both on dasht-e lut nor on kyzyl-kum (sea breeze - like in agadir, morocco - is wet which is lowering the temprature, as someone in the topic cited above cannot see)
