Hello everyone,
Does anyone know whether it is worth to stay longer in Uzbekistan so I can experience Independence day? I lived in Moscow for a 6 months, so I experienced enough of Soviet style celebrations. I would like to know if I can experience some real Uzbek culture during Independece day. I can almost find no travelers expierences about it on the Web or guidebooks.
Thanks!

Re: Independence Day Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has these type of north korea style mass celebrations, but these are not open to the public. You will not be able to see them. Other than some large state-sanctioned festivities, it is a day like any othet, i think. Traditional uzbek culture is best tasted by going to a little village anf staying with a family.

Thanks Steven!
I received a reply from Rustam Usmanov saying they're open every day, so I guess we'll just try and share our experience afterwards...

I'd be super interested in others who may have spent Independence Day in Uzbekistan. My partner and I will be in Samarkand for this year's and I'm curious whether there will be anything special to see and/or whether certain things will be closed. Will share feedback form our experience afterwards, of course

Worth to visit Samarkand on 25 August as there will be a Music Festival once every two years. I saw lots of students doing rehearsal in the morning and evening in Registan.

We are thinking of being in the Fergana Valley on these dates as well so I was wondering if you found out from any of the other places if they will or won't be open during Independence Day?LaRubia wrote:I received a reply from Rustam Usmanov saying they're open every day, so I guess we'll just try and share our experience afterwards...

No, unfortunately that was the only reply I got.
We'll just have to figure it out once we get there...
Enjoy your trip!
