Registration in the Ferghana Valley

Postby manny » Wed Aug 02, 2017 2:18 pm

Does anyone know if registration in the Ferghana Valley is still mandatory on an every night basis? My girlfriend lives in Andijan, I already have a tourist visa, and I'm meeting up with her to travel the rest of Uzbekistan together. I'm crossing in from Kyrgyzstan, is it fine to stay the first night at her house and then continue along our way staying at official accommodations? Would it be wise to ask the OVIR in Andijan if it's okay to register with them and if they say no (because of my tourist visa), I can safely without any hassle just check-in at a hotel?

Understand that you are being watched. Especially with a girlfriend. I would not notify OVIR about my Uzbek girlfriend, especially not in Andijan which is crawling with secret police.

Personally, I would take a hotel.

And more importantly than you being watched, bringing your GF or her family into things could cause problems for them.

This might be a dumb question, not sure: She's ethnic Korean, not ethnic Uzbek, speaks Russian and not Uzbek, would the authorities care less about our relationship in this case?

Hi manny, I am also just a foreigner who has been to Uzbekistan a few times. Surely, your girlfriend would be able to answer these questions better than any of us, right? She lives there and knows exactly how things work. Why don't you ask her?

On a sidenote: I don't see her ethnicity making a difference.
