Hi.

My friend and I are planning our trip to Uzbekistan in October.
We plan to rent a car in Samarkand and go to Myonaq, from there we would really like to go by ourself all the way to the seashore of the Aral Sea. I have a very hard time finding any information on this, it seams all go by jeep and guide.
Is it at all possible to drive ourself and stay in our own tent out there? Do we need a 4*4 or could it be done by normal car?

Also to visit Kantubek sounds so freaking cool and we are thinking to try and do it, has anyone been there or know anything about the rules of going there?

Any information would be very welcome.
Thanks

Tanja

I met two guys in a Landcruiser 80 and they went to the shore from Moynaq. They said it was quite a hard ride.
By there description, you really need a 4x4. And I would suggest something along the lines of a Landcruiser, not a 4wd suv.

There is some risk in getting flat tires or breakdowns on these roads where very few people are driving, and probably no reception?
So less than ideal in a rental car.

I can't remember if they went to Kantubek.
