Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates
Upon entering Uzbekistan everything I read indicated $1=~8,000 som, but immediately after I got here the rate dipped into the 7000s and yesterday it dropped to 6000s. The rate is picking back up, but everytime I try to show the money changer the going market rate using the website https://dollaruzb.net they always say "noooo" and come up with excuses like "that's the Euro rate" even though the website clearly is DOLLAR UZB not EURO UZB. I'm just curious on who is actually getting those higher rates and how they're getting them if every money changer I approach says its lower. Any advice?

Keep looking - it should have rebounded (downwards) to 7600. https://dollaruz.net/
No site mentions anything about 6000s. Uzbeks are very good at haggling. Try through your hotel perhaps?

Yes, nobody really looked at the bills more than half a second.okwell wrote:No, you won't.Antonio wrote:Hi, I changed euros to dollars an got a bunch of 2003, 2006 and 2009 series 100$ notes. Will I get worse rates with the old ones?
Regarding EUR in Uzbekistan: I changed EUR to USD in Spain with a 4% commission, due to limited options in my city. In Bukhara around the 09/08 it was 1 USD = 8000 SOM and 1 EUR = 8900 SOM, which was the best quote I ever heard for EUR. That day 1 EUR = 1.175 USD, but only 1.1125 at the bazaar (5.3% discount).
A few days later it was waaaay worse. It sucks for Europeans, but if your local bank can change to USD at a reasonable rate, I would recommend that.

Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates
Hi - FYI
We were be able to change 50 EUR in 425 000 Sum at a Bazar in Tashkent. (1 EUR - 8500 Sum)
Around the Chorsu Bazar - we changed 50 EUR in 430 000 Sum. (1 EUR - 8600 Sum).
Let's see what the euro rates get in the other cities.

Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates
On the 24th (August) I was being told 7800 for US$.
Next day it dropped to 7600.
I changed a load at that rate.
I keep hearing it has been dropping since?

Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates
Might seem like a stupid question but..........
Are there any ATM's in the bigger cities?
Having said that the current OANDA Bank Exch Rate $1 USD = 4169 Som.
So maybe it is better to shop around!

That are really high rates. Where can we find ATMs in Tashkent?
How would one exchange via the official rate then?
Thanks for the info Okwell.

Re: Uzbek sum exchange rates
You are welcome. As I know, there are no ATMs right now. Official banks are exchanging dollars. eg "Aloqabank", "OFB" etc.MattCresk wrote:That are really high rates. Where can we find ATMs in Tashkent?
