Trip planning advice.

Post by Dougalan »

Hello there.

I'm putting together a trip to Uzbekistan in October and would appreciate some comments about the planning. I think the schedule below is pretty reasonable but I'm pretty sure that it includes one too many days in Tashkent.

Consequently I wonder which of Khiva/Bukhara/Samarkand would best suit the extra time (or alternatively if there's anywhere else that could be fitted in -I tried to incorporate Nukus but couldn't quite make it work).

Anyway... your thoughts would be appreciated (and thanks in advance!)

Friday 11th: London flight overnight to Tashkent

Saturday 12th: Tashkent

Arrive in the early hours into Tashkent. Overnight stay in Tashkent.

Sunday 13th: Tashkent - Urgench

Daytime in Tashkent. 7pm evening flight to Urganch. Taxi to Khiva. Check in to the hotel and overnight stay in Khiva.

Monday 14th: Khiva

Day exploring Khiva

Tuesday 15th: Khiva - Ayaz Kala

Morning exploring Khiva. Afternoon drive to Ayaz Kala. Sunset etc. Overnight stay in Yurt?

Wednesday 16th: Urgench - Bukhara (3pm flight)

Morning exploration of Ayaz Kala then to the airport

Overnight stay in Bukhara

Thursday 17th: Bukhara

Daytime explore of Bukhara. Overnight stay in Bukhara

Friday 18th: Bukhara - Samarkand

Morning and lunch in Bukhara. Train @ 3.50pm. Overnight in Samarkand

Saturday 19th: Samarkand

Sunday 20th: Samarkand.

Explore Samarkand. 5.30pm train to Tashkent

Monday 21st: Tashkent

Explore Tashkent

Tuesday 22nd: Tashkent - UK

Morning explore Tashkent. 4.20pm flight to London

You could probably eliminate a day in Tashkent and a day in Khiva. Or if you do want to keep the day in Khiva, it would be easy to go to Nukus in the morning before going to the Qala. For most people Bukhara is the best place to linger.
