Planning for a bicycle trip on the Pamir highway, would be maybe better to go or a stove powered by liquid fuel instead of gas ? any suggestion ?

in my experience (up to 6000m+) - only propane-butane mix (mixed with isobutane if it is hardly freezing).
in temperatures below -5C common p-b mix has tendency to decrease its resilience, so the fire becomes smaller (it is easy to enhance the fire for a few minutes - just shake the stove). but you don't have problems with inflaming/exploding/controlling the fire like in the case of other liquid fuel (petrol/alcohol/parafin oil). for the heights of pamir highway common p-b mix like karrimor/epigas/coleman/primus/etc. is ok.

Aaaaand... Dushanbe is out of gas canisters. When will new canisters appear? God only knows. Try to buy in Bishkek or Khorog(maybe?) or elsewhere first. Maybe in Osh, but when I was in Osh this year a hostel manager was asking travellers if they had any used canisters they wanted to sell to him so that he could resell. If they were available at the bazaar he would have a stack of them.

What to do? Call the hostels in Dushanbe and ask (City Hostel, Green House and Yellow House first).

The camping shops that occasionally have them for inflated prices are here: https://goo.gl/maps/hgfGTBwcFVrs9A8b8 and https://goo.gl/maps/YQiuEvBkcq6Gxb6k8

We just went to that hunting store in Munisa Mall and they had small and large canisters for 220 and 280 TJS respectively. We just bought the cooker top there for 190, but no canisters. I called the Green House Hostel and they had the canisters as well, so we went there. They now sell the small ones for 7 dollars and the large for 11, so we ended up getting 3 of the large ones. We could pay them in dollars which was handy. It seemed like they had quite a few left. Thanks everyone for leaving tipps here, never would have found these places by asking around.

Anyone got any leads on alcohol?

Do the pharmacies stock 90% alcohol maybe?
