Hi,

yes, it is possible, but anywhere over 2000m is likely to still be snowy and thus very cold. But the sun should be shining most of the time, so if you are well-prepared, it is definitely possible.

Any suggestions of past place for hikes during this time? Arslanbob? Karaakol valley? Sary-Chelek? Any specific hikes/treks you recommend?

Thanks.

Those are all good bets. I would definitely include Ala Archa. The valleys behind Cholpon-Ata have good trekking as well, rarely visited, if you have good maps or simply want to explore.

For reference, this is a trip report I did from the Ala-Archa Valley Trail early May of last year: http://www.asia-hikes.com/kyrgyzstan-ala-archa-trail/

As long as you're comfortable with your cold-weather trekking skills, you shouldn't have too many reasons not to go. My main thought would be that it might be harder to get to trailheads unless you're willing to hire a 4WD to drop of and pick up your trekking party. One other concern is that I've never been terribly impressed by the maps available in Bishkek (with the exception of Ala-Archa, which does have some detailed maps available). If you can pick them up from your home country, it might be a good idea.

Spring time in Kyrgyzstan

Post by Azamat »

Hello,

In spring time, there are a lot of oppotunities for #hiking #horseback riding #biking.

Southern shore of Issyk-Kul lake is highly recommended for hiking and horseback riding. These places are high enough for hiking and horseback riding. There are good itinerary and there aren't snow.

Bon voyage for all and welcome to Kyrgyzstan!
