I am researching the transport options between these two cities and getting conflicting informations. My plan is to travel independetly by road using buses or private hire. No tours or agencies. Is this possible ?

How do you plan on getting to Lhasa without those things?

Coming from Kathmandu with a tour as per Chinese requirements, staying for 3 days then continuing to Kashgar.

I'm surprised they will simply let you go in Lhasa without ensuring you leave Tibet.

They won't let you go alone from Lhasa to Kashgar. No way.
