Central Asian music - post your favourites!
Hello! I am still in the midst of planning a trip around central Asia (the current situation has obviously pushed everything back indefinitely), but I wondered if anyone here could help with a slightly less usual question - does anyone know much about the music scenes of central Asia? I typically like to have a playlist of local music wherever I go. I am more than happy for it to be pop, folk or whatever else. I can find bits online through Googling of course, but this doesn't necessarily bring up the best - so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Re: Central Asian music
Hi,
I know this thread is quite old but I want to put my two cents in - when I was in Dushanbe in the summer of 2017, I had the great fortune to be able to stop by the Gurminj Museum of Musical Instruments. I was the sole tourist there at the time and there were a couple men hanging out there who apparently used to be the members of a Tajik musical band called "the SAMO group", who gave a small performance for me. It was really nice. Anyway, I managed to get my hands on one of their CDs and I've uploaded all the mp3 files onto my Google Drive, so if anyone is interested I can try to figure it out and share it. In the meanwhile, here is a video of one of their performances:

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will check them out!
On the poppier end of the scale, I quite like Kazakhstan's Turkvision winner "Izim korem": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y61PXxa903I
"Bir an salam" by Qonyratbay Fam is also an enjoyable listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08A5C9OeT-U
