Universal DATA sim card for CIS states

Postby man_without_eye » Fri Jul 08, 2016 8:33 pm

Far away the best solution is sim card of Ukrainian prime operator KYIVSTAR

Price is around 1,3 EUR/100 MB per day perhaps with exception of Turkmenistan and a bit more expensive Azerbaijan. The same valid in most EU states + Albania, Serbia... And TURKEY! Local sim cards in Turkey have awful conditions and it is ridiculously expensive.

It can be topped up easily with credit/debit card online.

If it is interesting for anyone, I will be passing Kiev next month so I can buy and post (it should be up to 3-4 EUR including some credit and postage fee anywhere on the planet) or later I can just lend mine.

Also when opened this topic, I have fully active and registered IRANCELL sim card, so also I can lend.

Global SIM card

Hi - how do you manage your mobile in the Stans, China and Pakistan ? Sometimes a local SIM card will not work f.e. for banking at home etc. So we are looking for a global sim card which would run on our German mobile number... Has somebody experiences with this topic ??? Thanks !

There is no such thing as a "global SIM card" that works with your German number, as your German number will work only with your German SIM card. The easiest way is having a double-SIM mobile and combining home and local SIM cards.

Also something worth of interest : French mobile operator "Free Mobile" offers 25 GB of monthly roaming in many CIS countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan but also Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Calls and texts are however not included.

Note that it's a subscription :20 euros / month, by credit card. There's no contract duration, it can be cancelled at any time.

The map of available destinations can be found here :

So far, as regards central Asian CIS countries, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan are not included. But for those travelling to KZ or UZ, it's a nice deal.

You can ask a friend based in France to collect it for you, I guess they do not ship overseas, but I have heard Free Mobile has also vending machines in some newsagents.
