Traveling in Russia - Potential rise in anti-British sentiment after recent events?

Post by wakeyjamie »

Hi Everyone,
After the recent events in the UK, and the diplomatic expulsions by various countries, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts / advice on how safe it is for a British / French couple traveling through Russia towards Kazakhstan in a campervan. We are hoping to enter Russia in the middle of May, so a while off yet.

Has there been a rise in anti-British sentiment stirred up by the respective governments. We are very respectful and will obviously steer away from any political discussions.
We just want to peacefully explore this country.
Thanks
Jamie

Russians are very good at integrating 2 completely opposing world views. Of course, as a Westerner, you are the enemy and are to blame for all Russia's problems. You and your countrymen are morally depraved and your country is awash with terrorists, refugees and just generally going down the shitter.

This is the line from tv and ~80% of the population believes it, and they will tell you many more conspiracy theories in detail while inviting you in for tea, slapping you on the back with hearty laughter while toasting vodka for the friendship of nations.

In short, don't worry, nothing's changed.
