Cross-border market in Khorog and Ishkashim

The latest developments over the in the Afghan Badakhshan may have something to do with it: this map shows the darkly shaded districts at >70% government controlled, the middle grey as 40-80%, and the lightest ones as largely Taliban/IEA controlled.
The border districts are still mostly in government hands, but the Taliban have been making considerable gains in the south of the province.

Ishkashim market closed today due to “trouble” - couldn’t find out anything more

Hi everyone

I read that the market in Khorog was closed last weekend, but on the 17th when we were there it was open. You can get updates in the tourist information in the park. (Our tour operator wanted to tell us it was closed, which was not true!)

Hi, we’re planning to go to Sultoni Ishkashim for the day as part of a Pamir tour later this month. We already have e-visas for Tajikistan/GBAO but understand we’ll need a second to re-enter Tajikistan. Presume we can just apply for the second any time in advance (even before first arrival in Tajikistan), albeit with a slightly later entry date than our first visa? Also are these day trips still running regularly, or are there any security issues causing them not to (clearly no point getting the second visa if so). Many thanks

Last update : afghan market was closed in Ishkashim 7th of september. Don't know about Khorog's.

Khorog border market was open last Saturday 21/9/19. We were told that Ishkashim’s was closed.

Hello there,
Since the beginning of the COVID and following the Taliban takeover of the GoT in Afghanistan, none of the three earlier existing border market are open at this moment. It is unlikely than any of them will get open in the near future.
