Dushanbe To Khorog Travel Advise

Post by mechalert »

Hello All,

Greetings!

I am traveling to Tajikistan on June ( Arrival - June 21st 3 AM, Departure - June 26th 4AM). I will be spending five full days there.

I know entire pamir stretch road trip is a must for all travelers. Since i can't do the entire stretch of pamir, at least i want to get a taste of it.

My planned itinerary is like this

June 21st 1am Arrival - Take a morning shared taxi to khorog from Dushanbe

June 22 and 23rd - spend time in khorog and nearby places.

June 24th - Check possibility of flight/helicopter otherwise shared taxi back to Dushanbe

June 25th - Dushanbe Sight seeing

June 26th - Flight back

I don't know if its a doable itinerary, Valuable inputs from experienced travelers are appreciated.

PS: - Heard a new helicopter service in place of the old flight. is it true?

Thanks in advance all..

Why not going to the Fan Mountains and keeping the Pamir for a trip with more time.

It depends on whether you want to do some trekking or just walk a bit.
I would go on the first day to Iskander Kul (and have a stop in Varzob gorge). At Iskander Kul is a Turbaza, where you could stay the night. For trekking I would take the other day another transfer out from Iskander Kul and let you drive in the next valley (Pasudara valley) as far as possible and then hike to Alaudin lake (camp), the next day cross a high pass to Kulikalon lake, where you have another great camping spot and then going out to the north to Artuch. As this is a serious trekking tour, an alternative would be instead to go from Iskander Kul by car to Penjikent, stay there and use a day to visit the seven lakes and drive back on the forth day. Alternatively you can visit Kulikalon lakes from Artuch. For the side valleys you will have to organize a taxi for yourself.
