Re: Registration for Sim card in Tajikistan

November 2022. T-Cell 5 minute walk from the train station, easy Sim card set-up. No idea what this registration thing is but I just gave my passport like I would have to anywhere else.

The salesperson I dealt with (young male) spoke very good English as he studied English at university and his mother an English teacher apparently. He even went out of his way and replaced the sim-card holder for me, leaving the T-cell store to go and source one from a nearby retailer, as we noticed it was broken.

Similar experience by walking into a random T-Cell in Dushanbe about a week ago.
10-day SIM (I didn't need more) cost me 130 somoni.

Mobile phone IMEI registration in Tajikistan

Post by nickd »

After I put Tajik SIM card, soon got SMS about IMEI registration. It says you have to register your IMEI in 30 days, otherwise the mobile provider will block your device. Apparently this new policy started in April this year. Tourists have the right to register their IMEI without paying taxes, but you can only do it via customs declaration when you enter Tajikistan. Do anyone know if they actually do that on the border? And if you haven’t done it there, how to register afterwards and at what cost?

So without registration the SIM card can still be used for 30 days? Is that correct?

Yes, correct. We didn't have to register anything - and we got 2 sim, one from Tcell and one from Megafon

I was told 10 days back in June, the staff at the shop was so nice that they did the registration and everything for me, after 10 mins my card was fully functional :)
