Tadj currency exchange from Samarkand to Panjikent

Hi , tomorrow I will leave Samarkand with plan of crossing UZB/TAJ border and go to Panjikent. I have no Tajikistan currency, is it better to exchange some USD in Panjikent, use some cash machine there, or use some guys just after the border? Or maybe in Samarkand I can buy somewhere TAJ soms?

Hi, the cash machines are all of Visa type. One Maestro for our European debet card but it was broken.
I was able to change dollars to Tadj somoni for a good rate, pretty much the official rate. The bank is on the right side, a while for the busy bazaar. But there are more banks. Just change enough to get to Dushanbe where an ATM is easier to find.

You will get a bad rate at the border but useful to get some pocket money. Get it on the Uzbek side, my taxi driver stopped to let the exchange guy in.

In Penjikent plenty of banks, might run into trouble at lunchtime some or all of them close. I was ok just before 12.
