Just planning my "Stans" trip this coming Sept/Oct. I'll be travelling throughout Uzbekistan and then heading to Osh before going across to Kashi (Kashgar) in Xinjiang.
The route I'm considering is Samarkand - Penjikent - Dardar (not going through Dushanbe) - Khujand - Kokand - Andijan - Osh.
Is this route through Tajikistan feasible, easy, difficult or is it better to go through Tashkent?
I'm an older solo traveler (seasoned!) and plan to cover this route in 2-3 stages. Which will be the best towns to stay en route?
Samarkand to Osh via Tajikistan
Re: Samarkand to Osh via Tajikistan
It should be fairly straightforward, especially if you just go straight from Penjikent up to Khojand.
But many/most people doing this route would probably go up into the Fann Mountains. The 7 Lakes area is probably the most accessible and easiest, but you could also visit Iskander-kul or do more intensive trekking if you want.
