I would definitely have walked it if I wasn't landing at 1am! Even in a safe city I prefer avoiding the late night walks :)

I arrived 02:30 in the night after two days traveling. Walking wasn't much of an option for me. Gave up on $5 as I was too much exhausted to bargain. My friend told me the next day he was charged $10.

We “prearranged” transfer from airport to hotel anyi for $10. This was because the reviews advised that the driver would meet us at the door of the plane and escort us through customs priority lane along with the driver.

Well, despite other passengers on plane being greeted at door of plane by drivers and hastily prioritized through customs, our driver was no where to be seen. We made it to the front customs desk (which took 40 minutes) when i saw my name on a paper in a guys hand. I yelled at him until i came over - he was obviously friends with customs but he did absolutely nothing to help. He did eventually drive us to the hotel but we refused to pay. I think he realized he messed up being late and not helping so he didn’t even attempt to argue.

Despite our bad luck, those who successfully arrange airport transport seems reasonable for $10 door to door vip service. Check with your hotel and confirm multiple times

It can't happen like that. Reviews are totally wrong. Only airport (apron) personnel is allowed to be in the international area of the airport. Taxi drivers can't go there for sure. For $10 the most you can expect is someone to wait for you with a sign at the meeting point, escort you to the taxi, carry your luggage and of course drive you to your accommodation in Dushanbe.

I know they offer similar "VIP" service when you departure. An airline official will pick you up from the departures terminal and escort you all the way to the gate arranging priority check in and problem free passage with security authorities but I know it costs something around $20.

I'm wondering if someone can help me with the configuration of the airport. On Google Maps when I try to map out directions to and from the airport, it leads you to the southern end. But the terminal buildings appear to be north of the east-west runway, by Titov St and perpendicular to Ahmadi Donish St. Are Google Maps' directions wrong? More pertinently, can you walk out of the airport onto Titov?

Use Google Maps in Tajikistan at your own risk. It’s often very very wrong and misleading.

Yes, you can walk north from the arrivals/departures terminal directly to the street formerly known as Titov. Or from that street directly to the terminal.

The only reason to walk would be that you are staying at a hostel within walking distance. Any hostel, guesthouse or hotel can put you in a $2-3 taxi and just say “airport.”

Thanks for clarifying. What alternative to Google Maps would you suggest for Tajikistan?

I tried OsmAnd, Komoot and GaiaGPS. I ended up using the paid version of OsmAnd the most as it seemed the most accurate and the interface is highly customisable as well.

The Green House charges $10 for an airport pickup. If my flight landed at a reasonable hour I'd have no hesitation walking to the metered taxi stand outside. But I'm taking the same flight as you, which arrives at 1am. At that hour is it reasonably easy to find a metered taxi without having to haggle? What did you end up doing?
