Parking overnight, safe at Jizev?

Hi,

Maybe a difficult question to answer, but just looking for a general answer in terms of risk of car break-ins. We will be driving our own car and are planning to do the Jizeu trek in Bartang Valley, staying one night in the village. The start of the trek is just on the side of the Bartang Valley road with no houses anywhere near. I have no idea about the potential for car break-ins in this area, or in Tajikistan i general. Would it be fine to park the car by the side of the road overnight while we are away on the trek, leaving most of our luggage covered in the car?

There is a garage with a couple of trees in front about 100m before the bridge to Jizev. You can park your car under the trees there. That's at least what we have done in the past.

Dear Chris

Nothing is going to happen to the car you park on this side of the river. There are many other travellers will be around whose driver usually waits for them on this side of the river to pick them up. Enjoy your trip.

Quick update here: we parked overnight just yesterday at the spot indicated by Steven next to the bridge and nothing happened to our car. However, we met a driver there, waiting for his tourists, who told us that since last year they don’t leave their car unattended to accompany their tourists anymore, even if not overnight, because there was an incident last year and one car got robbed.

But again we took our chances and it went fine for us. Jizev is really worth it by the way!
