turkmenistan with my car from Slovakia to pamir highway

Hi, I want croising over turkmenistan with my car from Slovakia to pamir highway. You, somebody know how i can in sommer 2022 make this trip? I know, that turkmenistan is now closed, but you know when by open? My way is EU, turkey, iran, turkmenistan, tajikistan, kigistan, uzbekistan and back. About 13000 km. I'm by no means a specialist of the region, but I wouldn't count on Turkmenistan opening their borders anytime soon. The government seems way too happy to have found a pretext to close the borders (not that they really needed one anyway...). If I were you, I'd find another itinerary. Also, I think it's not so easy going to Iran with your own vehicle. You may want to search about this in the Iran section of the forum. I remember it being quite cumbersome.

You could do that if Turkmenistan opens up (big if, as Burton pointed out), though you will need a carnet de passage en douane (I couldn't find who issues these in Slovakia - perhaps ÚAMK). This usually requires that you put down a deposit on the car (it's to prevent you from selling the car in Iran essentially).

Alternatively, you could go via Iran/Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan (via the Baku-Aktau). Going via Georgia instead of Iran will save you the headache of getting a carnet for your car, as Iran is the only country on your route, which requires these.

Other than that, the Iranian visa is very easy to get at the moment (online agency+1 embassy visit - I recommend Turkey/Erzurum instead of Vienna), Azerbaijan and Tajikistan have e-visas.

I have the same itinerary as you. But now I am at the door of Turkmenistan. Recently just lorries and trucks with invitation letters can pass across Turkmenistan. No traveler and car is allowed to pass unfortunately.

I am routinely in contact with the Turkmenistan embassy. However, I do not know whether to choose Afghanestan to pass or not??

Ahojte, síce neskoro dávam info: absolvoval som v lete 2023 celú túto trasu, vlastným autom a sám. EU-turecko, irán, turkmenistan, uzbekistan, kazachsta, rusko, eu. Obával som sa vstupu do Turkmenistanu, to na moje prekvapenie prebehlo v poriadku (je to severná korea 2), žiaľ pamír bol kvôli konfliktu TJK-KRG neprejazdný.
A práve preto pripravujem v lete 2024 podobnú jazdu ale na trase EU, Rusko, Kazachstan, KRG, Pakistan (karakolom), Iran. Turecko, EU. Momentálne pracuje na dvoch zásadných problémoch: 1. Vstup vlastným autom do Číny a 2. Carnet (pre moje auto) do Pakistanu. Do Iránu mám už s karnetom skúsennosti. V EU cena bola cca od 3000 - do 10 000 € !!!!. Cez agentúru v Iráne aj s asistenciou na hraniciach (odporúčam) 450 € . Ak niekto vie a chce poradiť budem mu vďačný.
