Independent travel in Turkmenistan

Hi,

I am just interested in visiting Ashgabat. Is it possible to do it independently? Looking to cross from Uzbekistan and back to Uzbekistan.
I can try my luck with a transit visa, but would I be allowed to leave from the same entry point?
