how long does it take to drive from Ashgabat to the Darvaza crater?
And how much would it cost to arrange a car+driver for a day trip ex Ashgabat?

I was in Turkmenistan last month. Take a taxi to the brand new busstation in Ashgabat north or go to the road to Derwasa 100 metres further and wait for a car. When a van stopped with other travellers we could join them. The ride lasted 2 1/2 hour when we were dropped at the chaikana of Ercel, tel. 61170154. Stay a night cost 10 $ sleeping well on a matress and blankets. For another 10 $ you can go with a jeep to the gas crater and stay there in dark for one hour and come back again, stunning !!! Next day you proceed to Konye Urgench or come back to Ashgabat with the bus.
