Turkmen manat black market exchange rates

The rate seems to be fixed everyday.

At Farab border, we got 1$ = 6.7 Manat (after haggling from 6.5). Considering the recent devaluation of the $, we didn't shop around further, seemed fair enough.

GUYS!! You can actually get 9.5 - 10!

Locals have told me that they have always changed dollar in the rate at least 9.
I did it in Mary at a small Bazzar near Yrsgal Hotel, I told the money exchange person I want 10, then they said 9.5 just in a sec!

Reminder: Never pay dollar to anyone (eg. taxi driver), change your dollar to Manat before you pay anything. Bargain with them in Manat and ask the local what's the real price in advance. 99% of them will charge you more because you are foreigner.

The current exchange rate is around 1$ = 14-15 Manat and it is still rising. Changing on the black market is still possible, just don't be too obvoius when doing it.
Just ask local people for money exchange and they will help you.

we exchanges our USD to Manat 1$ = 17 manat. We did this 15 may 2018.

We exchanged our money via Kuwwat Hotel. First a guy told us we could get 1$ = 10 manat at his shop and this sounded reasonable for us. But when we wanted to go to his shop we couldn't find him anymore. We saw an older guy in de hotel and he could talk English but told us we could get 20 manat for 1$. He called for us with a guy, but eventually we couldn't get more than 17, which we already though was really high. We gave the money to him and he went and got it for us. So I don't know where exactly.

I exchange 1usd to 15 manat on 19 may, seem like the rate is getting better everyday. Do not change more than you need as changing it back to usd is impossible even at the banks. I have a hard time trying to change to Uzbek dollars at both sides of the border and no one want to change with me. Was going round some Uzbek border towns and no one want to change manat to uzbek som
