10 day cycling tour in Iran: looking for a route

Postby SHK » Sun Oct 29, 2017 5:58 pm

Dear Caravanistan Travelers,

I am planning a cycle tour in Iran beginning mid March.

- Available time minus days for flights, domestic transport, rest days and the like will leave me about 10 actual cycling days. In this time I expect to cover between 600 and 700km.

I am open to visit cultural heritage sites, however my main interests are cycling beautiful scenery and experiencing the Iranian people as they live now.

I am looking for secondary roads trying to avoid highways with heavy traffic.

Currently I am looking at:

1. Shiraz - Yazd - Esfahan.

2. Esfahan - Hamedan - Kermanshah

3. Tabriz - Saqqez - Sanandaj

Could anyone help me in comparing these routes? Or suggest other routes?

Thank you very much already! Regards from a German cyclist. Stefan

I can say that Shiraz- Yazd -Esfahan is a sort of rocky desert: I would not say it is beautiful scenery.

I have not done the other 2 routes so cannot say if they are nicer, but in general, the mountains should experience a flush of green in March so that would be the place to be.
