You need to take cash with you to Iran. They dont except most credit/debit cards. If you spend all of your money its very hard to do a transfer, there is no western union. But I found a place in Tehran that can help. Money Gram. They have a few options for transfer methods, the charge I think was 10% of the transfer amount.

Ran out of money in Iran?
Re: Ran out of money in Iran?
Surprised to read there is MoneyGram in Iran. Thank you for the tip, moffy, hopefully this issue will be resolved in 2016 with the end of sanctions.

Re: Ran out of money in Iran?
Hi guys!
Just wondering if anyone heard or seen anything about getting cash in Iran? Since the sanctions are gone now?
Don't want to go back to Tehran, since i've already spent 6 days there. (Heading to yazd and Mashad in order to get to Turkmenistan.
Possible for me to get any cash somewhere u think?
Thanks!!

Don't know, ask locals perhaps? They should know if it's possible.

Usual way is asking exchange office, they will give you account number of private person in EUR country (in most cases it is going to be Germany), money is being received to the account and cash will be given in an exchange office.

The sepa system has been opened but it is an empty highway for now. The prez is all for opening up to the west but the ayatollah has the final say and he is still firmly against. So very little progress atm even with the end of sanctions.
