Safety situation in southeast Iran

Post by rk1 »

Hi everyone,

We are currently in Iran and want to go to the southeast of the country, i.e. Sistan and Baluchestan region. We are thinking about Chabahar and then just go north from there to Bam, Rayen, Lut Desert, Kerman and Meymand. I think the latter ones should be fine, and have talked to locals here in Shiraz about Chabahar and they deemed it totally fine as well.
The area is „red“ according to UK foreign travel advise, but am aware that that does not necessarily mean that it’s a no go.

So I would like second opinions from here, if any has been or know anything about it. Thanks!

Any problem if you stay on the main road. I travel from kerman to darek beach. And then Chabahar with bicycle. Any problem. People very welcome, and very very poor. Not easy to found water and food out of the main city, but on the coast it's ok. 1 month in baluchistan.
Only one "problem" on a lost gravel road, a man on motorbike with a kalachnikov, told me and ask me to go back and reach the man road. He escort me, and told me there is lot of talibans there. Nice guy. He told me he was from secret police. I don't know. but you are really confronted with human misery. it's psychologically tough in the land in the middle of nothing.
