Is the road, border or area open and accessible to foreigners? Is there danger?

Border Iran - Pakistan - no vaccine

Post by energico »

Hello,
has anyone been able to cross the border from Iran to Pakistan in 2022 without being vaccinated?
The information I find is for flights, where it is mandatory

I crossed the border 2 months ago (with own car) and didnt see anything special, Zahedan looks as a dodgy city, but once out of Zahedan, there is nothing, pure desert, and some checkpoints from military. Dont think its unsafe, would be more concernd about Zahedan town !!

Hello everyone, is there any update on Iran? I was planning to travel from Turkey to the east no-fly from mid-February. I was considering entering Azerbaijan from Georgia but I have just learned that the land border is closed. So I am considering travelling through Iran instead. I would enter from Van and then travel to Pakistan. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks!
Also, if you have tips on the Mirjaveh - Taftan Iran - Pakistan border, please share them here...I'd be so grateful.
I crossed 8 october Mirjaveh-Taftan border. Its not really special to cross, i crossed with own car. It took me like 4 hours if remember good. The border guards will ppoint you from one to an other desk or building. Beware in Baluchistan that is complicatd to fuel up (in october), in Mirjaveh town, just before the last checkpoint on the main-road to the border, turn right, they almost filled my tank up. I arrived at the border at 2 pm and better dont go later, because you are not allowd to sleep there, you have to cross into Pakistan. When you arrive after the main gate at the Pakistani side, the Levies will come for you and bring you to the police station where you can sleep, they will also go to get you some food and drinks. I stocked up in Iran from everything because its a long ride after the border. Try to get at Taftan also a SIM-card, they can buy for you. I didnt and did it 2 days later in Quetta and that was a hassel. The Escort from the Levies took me 6 days until passing D.I.Khan where the toll-road to islamabad starts. Its all free, you dont need to pay the guys, they were friendly, but very slow, 6 days for 1000 kms !! In Quetta the Bloomstar hotel is compulsary, its not as bad as it used to be, its old but clean, the food is reasonable and the "new" staff is not unfriendly, they now there was a lot of shit-talk about them on internet and do their best !!

6 days for 1000kms? That's painful. Sorry, who are the Levies? Do you mean you were escorted by the police? I'd like to travel via public transport, is there any?
thanks for all the advice,
gianluca

The Levies is kind of Military police. They travel only in their district, wich makes them change every x-time. I didnt count exactly, but on the indian border i saw a german couple and they checked it with their google-maps application: 85 changes of escort (in 1000 km) what i can believe. Sometimes they are waiting already, sometimes you wait 2 hours. I met a belgian cyclist at the border, and said to the levies, put him and his bike in my car, then he doesnt have to change every half hour, and after some discussion and phone-calls they agreed with me (and the cyclist was happy also ofcours). You are not alowed on public transport, but the back of a Levies pick-up is maybe bigger adventure. Except from the time-loss i cant complain about them. They left me (and 2 other minivan and truck) free only after Dera ismael Khan when entering the toll-road to Islamabad.
Maybe of topic, but if doing the KKH to the Chinese border, you dont need an escort, but at every checkpoint you have to register and do some paperwork, which can be anoying also after all day doing the same. Count on this some landslides, a political protest and some road and damworks, it toke me 11 hours to do the trip from Gilgit back to Besham (hilton hotel, recomended). Its 330 kms and i didnt stop for anything then the compulsary things (no drink ir eat-break).

I understand that escorting by police is unavoidable, is that correct? I also take it that the only possible route from Taftan is through Quetta and then Dear Ghazi Khan. And that takes 6 days. It wouldn't be possible to spend less time than that, correct?
