I recently returned from a 15 day trip in Afghanistan (absolutely amazing!). The trip covered Kunduz, Mazar, Samangon, the Solang Pass, Bamyan, Band-e Amir, Kabul and Nuristan (Parun and Waygal).
I did the entry/visa process at Panj-e Payon/Shir Khan Bandar after getting a taxi to the border from Dushanbe and then flew out of Kabul, with a Wakhi guide from Khandood, Ibrahim Hamdard.
Ibrahim is an excellent guide, who I'll be going with again when I plan on going to the Wakhan Corridor in a few years time.
He handled arranging all the paperwork, visa application, transport and accomodation. The paperwork alone I suspect saved valuable time.
If you're looking for a guide in Afghanistan I'd highly recommend Ibrahim. His whatsapp number is +93 749 229030, his Facebook is https://www.facebook.com/ibrahim.hamdard.100

Re: Afghanistan Guide Recommendation
Hi
Thank you for sharing this great information.
If you don't mind me asking what nationality is your passport? The only reason I ask is because I want to go through Dushanbe into Afganistan and then out through the Pakistan Torkham border.
I hold a British Islands passport which is basically the same as a uk passport and just wanted to gauge your thoughts on the feasibility of doing this route.
How long did it take for you to obtain you Afghanistan visa at the border?
Thanks in advance
Torr

I drove 2500 kilometers in Afghanistan in my car and visited 12 provinces of this country. I did not have any guide. Nothing terrible happened to me. ))) So you can travel around Afghanistan without a guide.

Hi there!
Afghanistan is high on my travel list, especially Bamyan and Band-e Amir. Your route sounds great, definitely inspiring me to start planning. I’ll probably need a guide when I go, so it’s great to have a recommendation like this. Hoping to make it there next year if all goes well!

Re: Afghanistan Guide Recommendation
Good to hear from somebody else who had a good experience with Ibrahim. I've stayed in touch with him since I did my trip to the Afghan Wakhan in 2018.
It seems that the long anticipated construction of the road through the Wakhan to China is moving ahead quickly, which has already brought great changes, as many non Wakhi and Kyrgz people are moving in to try to take advantage of the new construction and road.

As previously mentioned by other members, I’m here to also highly recommend Ibrahim Hamdard.
Ibrahims input was absolutely invaluable to me on my recent month-long solo trip through Afghanistan!
He simply removed all of the clerical complexities that I would’ve definitely struggled with had I found myself alone in any of these offices where all documentation has to be provided, checked and double checked!
If you’re heading into beautiful Afghanistan do yourself a favour and make contact with Ibrahim!
He’s super efficient, experienced, polite, professional and ultra reliable.
Just like those before me, I highly recommend him as a respectable and highly informed solutions provider out there in Afghanistan!

Hello,
I'm curious. Single female and wondering where you stayed while in Afghanistan and where you had access to the country due to the Taliban. I don't want to impose my western self on a country that doesn't want me there but obviously I'm curious. I'd also like to know why you chose the places you did.
Thanks!

Re: Afghanistan Guide Recommendation
Good Morning Marianne, I’m sure you would be made very welcome during your visit to Afghanistan. I arrived via Kabul international airport.
There are countless easy accommodation options including some run by the Taliban which are safe and comfortable.
I was travelling for a month and stayed in a variety of places, hotels, guesthouses, home stays, camping and yurts.
My route:
Kabul, Band-e-Amir, Bamyan, Ghór, Chagcheron, Minar-e-Jam, back to Kabul then headed up to Badakshan via the Salang to Faizabad, Eskashim, Khandud, Sarhad-e-Broghil, then on foot/horse/yak for almost 2 weeks into the Afghan Wakhan/Pamir as far as Lake Chaqmaqtin and finally back to Kabul.
Tbh, I had initially planned to see more but discovered on arrival that the time between desired locations takes MUCH longer than I had expected!
I haven’t gone into too much “specific” detail here because I’m not sure of your desired route or timings but if there’s anything specific you would like to know, please drop me a wee line and I’ll try to help if I can.
Warmest Regards & Safe Travels!
JT.
