Travel permit?

Post by trolik »

Robert Czerucki is currently posting videos about his travel to Afghanistan. He mentions a problem at the border because he didn't have a "travel permit". Is this really so?

Is he travelling by car/bike? If yes, probably it’s about “road permit”, not travel permit.

If you don’t have your own transport, you just need to apply for travel permits in each province you visit. It’s free of charge and takes only 20–30 minutes to obtain in any provincial Ministry Of Culture & Information Department. I had my experience in Tahar, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Bamyan, Nuristan provincial offices and in Kabul, everywhere the process was smooth and easy-going.

Travelling without these is possible, but not recommended, unless you don’t simply transit. If you really need to visit lots of places, this is essential. However, you can not get this one on the border and no one will ask for it at the border as well.

He was traveling on bike. The problem was that the Afg border guards asked for this premit at the border post. He had to fight thru this problem and they finally let him go after few hours

Motorbike, not bicycle, right?

If on motorbike, then it’s all right. You need to have road permit to travel within the country on your own transport. You can apply for it at the embassy along with visa, the cost is 100$, as I remember.
