Tiny bit of connection with my Tajik SIM card in Ishkashim, Qala Panja, and Khandood, otherwise zero connectivity.

I carried a satellite that let me text with folks back home, but there is NO local connection in most of the Wakhan.

For those interested in the Pamir (I guess everyone here is) who read french (I've surely lost all of you), I've found a very interesting book : "la dernière caravane" (the last caravan), written by Roland and Sabrina Michaud. It's about their life in Afghanistan and travels in the Pamir in the late 60s, from Khandud to Tchaqmaqtin lake. Magnificient and very instructive !

Oui Stephparis :-).

It is a classic, along with all the other books the Michauds have written about Afghanistan & Asia. They are easily found and have been translated in English and various other languages.

Another outstanding book about the Afhan Pamir & Wakhan came out in 2012. It's called " Pamir. Oubliés sur le toit du monde " by Matthieu & Mireile Paley. The pictures are top-notch and the accompanying text is also very instructive.

I don't know if it's been printed in English.

Thanks so much for your detailed and interesting report.

I’d like to plan a photo trip with some trekking. Do you know if it’s possible to reach the best Kyrgyz camps by car or are they mostly reached by trekking? How far are they from Tajikistan? Thanks Jo

As for the Kyrgyz camps of Little Pamir, you cannot reach them by car, unless the Chinese will have built a road (which is their intention). So it is usually 2-3 days of trekking from Sarhad to the Little Pamir. You could easily drive to those camps from Tajikistan (which is nearer than Sarhad), but the border is closed.
But you also find Kyrgyz people in Tajik Pamir, especially in Murghab district.

Thank you. Is it possible to travel by road from Kyryzstan into Tajikistan now?

I don't know, but I think the borders between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan should still be closed for tourists, due to corona.
