Hi Rainest (sorry, I don't know your exact name) and guys,

I really am excited to make this trip and I only can do it in the second half of May.

Does anyone know if the Kyrgyz government could grant us a special transit permit so that we can cross this section below within a day?
https://screenshot.googleplex.com/6kup9b24MRFSbfM

I mean, if we got a kind of special transit permit of even one day (which allows us to complete this 180km-section in few hours), we could concretize our roundtrip circular route stating/ending in Dunshabe.

I know that it is very difficult to obtain this information and possibly the Kyrgyz goverment does not offer this kind of transit permit, but it would be great if was possible..

What do you think we create a discussion group in some network (telegram, whatsapp, etc) with the guys who can travel and want to share a ride to the Pamir highway in the period from May 20th to May 30th ?

Hi Fabrizio,

I plan to start the trip either 15, 16 or 17 May so 20th would not work for me. I hope you can find someone who has the same departure date.

Dear all
Please be informed that at the moment all land borders between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan remain closed with no further update on its reopening. There are some talks between two sides authorities are going on and we may get some updates in the upcoming months.
Similarly, since the Taliban take over of the government in Afghanistan, all official border points between Tajikistan and Afghanistan remains closed. The GBAO remains open for the tourists/visitors and things are pretty calm and peaceful everywhere. GBAO permits can be arranged in advance to save your time.
At the moments the options are: if your are arriving in Bishkek or Osh, cross the border to Uzbekistan and enter Tajikistan at the Samarqand-Penjikent border (Tajikistan), travel to the Pamirs and either do a loop via the Bartang valley after visiting the Karakul lake or come back to Dushanbe via the M41. There are two roads namely the Southern Road and The North Road (which is more scenic including the Khobu Robot Pass 3200m) to take from Dushanbe to Khorog or on your return journey.

hope this helps

Greetings to all who are going to drive along the Pamir Highway in May 2023. I was there in May 2022 and August 2022 and I can say the following: there is no need to hope for the opening of the borders between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, between Tajikistan and Afghanistan. I constantly live in Kazakhstan and follow this topic. The probability of such an event is very small. It is better to plan the movement along the Pamir Highway within the borders of one country (Tajikistan) - this is the most difficult, interesting and beautiful part of the road. The Pamir Highway in Kyrgyzstan is a fully paved road with fairly heavy traffic. In Tajikistan, you can drive one way all the way along the Pamir Highway and then return back to Dushanbe via Bartang or the South Road. Then along the asphalt through Kulyab. The old road of the classic Pamir Highway is very picturesque. Here, watch a short video. https://youtu.be/eCRx3uTjWrY

talks have apparently demarcated a bunch of the TJ/KG border already, which is promising towards the crossing being open. presumably they at least agree on Кызыл-Арт

afghan border is gonna be a mystery for a while, but i have no intention of crossing that

Hi guys,

I am looking to join a trip leaving Dushanbe on approx. the 15th of May and returning back before the 25th of May. With the current border situation we will most likely have to plan to returning back to Dushanbe but happy to keep it flexible if the situation changes in the proceeding months.

I myself am 29 male living in London, UK. Plenty of experience travelling in the America's and Asia. But none in central asia (closest I've come is Georgia).

If we want to make some serious plans I would suggest we make a whatsapp group to make concrete plans for may and book our flights to make it happen!

Hi fellow travelers. Just wonder how many days are you looking into for round Pamir from Dushanbe.
Could be available if time permits and Pamir is high on my list :)

Me and a friend (m25,m30) are travelling from Dushanbe through the pamir highway, looping back into the capital. Since the border to Kyrgyzstan will remain closed. we want to rent a car, we have international travelers license, free visa, and will likely get our GBAO through the rental service.

We plan mid march to late april. We are doing a round trip through the -stan countries, Almaty, Bishkek, Taskhent, Samarkand, Dushanbe, Ulaanbaator etc. Since we cant complete the full route we will likely shorten the trip to 4-6 days. Murghab and lake Karakul lose some attractiveness for us since we would have to backtrack from the same road. So we will explore looping back from Kargush. Dushanbe – Kalai-Khumb, Kalai-Khumb – Khorog, GaramChashma, Silk Road Kah-Kaha in Namadgut etc. we have to be back in Dushanbe to take get a flight to almaty. the long road back to samarkand, taskhent, bishkek, almaty (no osh route) is apparently not that beautiful and quite long. flying is like 100 us dollars.

If you are interested in sharing the cost, or plan something get in touch.
