Glad to hear it worked out. I've heard horror stories about Azeri registration, especially staff at the PO simply not wanting to deal with registration. I heard about the guy whose visa was running out...

Aaaargh!!!! too much information? What shall i do, hmmmmm....
I'd just persuaded myself that going for an e-visa was the way forward, now I'm not so sure....
I intend to arrive by train from Georgia and leave on the next available ferry to Aktau, Kazakhstan. around 21st January
Was hoping to couch surf for the few days awaiting ferry
It can't be such an unusual situation for uk passport holders?

If you want to couchsurf, don't go for the e-visa, since you have to book all your hotels in advance.

Stay in a hostel 1 night to get registered, then couch-surf. Pricewise, the normal visa might still work out cheaper then, if you go to a normal embassy (not a super-pricey one), seeing how accommodation in Baku is rather expensive.

There's been a change: now you only have to register before the 10th day. I have the e-visa and will stay less than 10 days; I'll post an update when I leave the country.

With regard to booking hotels in advance, the agents who handle the e-visa applications say you can cancel the bookings after you get the visa. It's also not 100% date-specific; if they give you 10 days, you actually get a 30-day window to use your 10 days.

Update: I left Azerbaijan today by land--stayed six days without registering, no issues at the border.

We confirm the 10 days time frame to register. We went today at the immigration office in Baku after 8 days we entered the country and there was no problem at all. We are not sleeping in hotels, so we had to show the copy of our host's ID card.

Side comment: the document they give you is ridiculous. It's just a piece of paper with a random signature and not even a stamp. We'll update any problem at the border leaving the country.

Hi Ian, we are in Baku now! Are you still here waiting for the ferry? We are getting information to go to Aktau, and they say that now the ferry leaves from Alat, 70 km from here. Very bad news for us, since we are traveling by bike! What about you?

Registration Azerbaijan

Post by cyclolenti »

We got the registration right away in Balaken, which is the first village after the board coming from Georgia. The immigration office is on the main road on the left side just before the second traffic light. it has a blu sign.

Price: they asked 15manat to register 2 passports, but they gave us 2 receipts of 5manat. We told them that and at the end we payed 10manat. After few days we met someone informing us that if you write by yourself the info on the registration application and don't let them do it for you (that of course the man that worked there didn't tell us) it would have been only 0,40manat each.
