Sorry to add this to Kunming but couldn't find a separate Shangri La.
We just went to the PSB office in Shangri La (near the massive white temple in the middle of a roundabout). The official spoke good English, and said it takes 5 working days to complete, and can only be done *within* the last 7 days of the existing visa. This seems the be the opposite to everywhere else but he was very clear, and refused to do our extensions as we still have 10 days.

Here is another one:
April 2018: 8 working days. Digital photo needed which cost an expensive 80¥. There is only 1 place where it s possible to get it done. A travel itinerary and hotel registration as well.
