Uzbekistan: Possible to stay for 4 month with visa runs?

My wife, my daughter and I will fly to Uzbekistan in September. We are Austrians and allowed to stay for 30 days without visa. My wife's parents are living in Uzbekistan and we would like to stay with them until January, 4.5 month in total. We originally planned to apply for a visa, but it looks like we will not be able the get a visa in time. The embassy told us that we need an invitation from my wife's parents. They already submitted the invitation in June, but the responsible authority is working very slow and is telling them every week, that they will be finished by the end of next week. We are now thinking about other ways to stay in Uzbekistan in case we don't get the visa in time. For staying 4.5 month we would need to do 4 visa runs. Has anybody done this before?
