Also if anyone has recommendations for visa-flight booking on a trustable website, please share!
Concerning this: I didn’t want to spend 1200 dollar on a refundable flight and then worry if I’d get it refunded.
Instead i visited a couple of travel agencies and found a guy who made me a return flight booking for 3000 tenge. (About 6eu) That should be enough of a document for the visa application.
I did the same back in Mongolia in 2017 and it was fine back then. Will keep you updated about the process.

Just visited Chinese ambassy in Bishkek.
I waited about 30min to get someone from the embassy speaking English getting out and speak to me.
The guy said to me the same thing as report earlier on this forum.
Their policy at the moment is no tourist visa for third country passeport holder unless you've been leaving in Kyrgyzstan for the past 6 month.
I asked If that could change any time soon, he got no idea.

Just got back from the Chinese embassy in Almaty, same story.
I went to the embassy at 7 while it opens at 9 to be in time for the crazy crowd. Checked with the guard: yes chinese visa for all countries. At 9.15 I was told by another guy that I had to be in another location 😫.
(Both google maps locations are wrong, one is the chinese embassy that doesn’t do visas, the other place marked is the kyrgyz embassy. Go to Gogol st. 20 for chinese visa matters).

There a lady told the same story. Either 6 months of residence, or home country application. (Even when I explained that I’ve been traveling for 10 months and will keep doing so. After pushing a bit more she asked another guy and he said that this applies for all central-asian ex-soviet countries. When I said that it wasn’t a problem in mongolia in 2017, she said she didn’t know anything about mongolia.

If anyone knows of another creative way to reach Pakistan over land, tips are very welcome. I’m quite annoyed by this 😅

I've just got my Chinese visa in my home country (with non-paid hotel/plane reservations to Beijing and back); I am planning to cross from Kyrgyzstan around 18/19 July, I will let know how it goes.

It was ok to apply for Chinese visa even if you don’t live in Kazakhstan?
Not sure yet, will visit tomorrow morning. I read all these problematic stories about the embassies in almaty, bishkek, tashkent and not yet dushanbe but it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the same.
So if anyone has some wise words on how to obtain a chinese visa otherwise, that’d be highly appreciated.

Also if anyone has recommendations for visa-flight booking on a trustable website, please share!
How did you get on?

Chech the reports above for the visa related stuff! It really seems impossible to get it here in central asia.
I’m now contemplating to fly back home and apply for a chinese visa in NL. Has some perks on the side like joining my family to the alps, but it still feels stupid. My whole trip has been a chess game with world politics so far.

I think when I wrote the above post I somehow missed the second page so hadn't seen the updated version. Heh oops.
I just saw your comment on another thread saying you are making your way to India from Europe. I'm doing this trip in reverse, starting in India in August. China visa has been a nightmare and currently doesn't feel worth the trials and tribulations. Due to timing I would have to apply for the visa in India.
I'm currently thinking of skipping Pakistan and China and getting a direct flight to Uzbek, or going up to Pakistan and getting a flight via Delhi (backtracking).
Like you it feels a bit like a compromise in values. Also may have to fly over the Caspian if Azerbaijan doesn't have it's borders open by then.
Maybe I'll just see how it all unfolds on the road.

Hi folks,

Has anyone had success recently in getting a Chinese visa when outside their home country with the intent to travel from Pak->China->Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan?

I’m currently on an Australia-Europe bike tour and looking at my options to get into Central Asia from India (I am currently in Kolkata).

My home country is Australia and I was going to try to apply for the Chinese tourist visa in Kathmandu as I’d heard some people have had success there but now I am not so sure.

It would be great to hear what other people’s latest experience/plans are at the moment.

For me I see two options that I am fairly confident outside of Pak to China to Tajik or Kyrgyzstan (but not happy about as I want to cycle overland where possible):
1. Fly from Delhi to Bishkek (Kyrgyz) and start cycling Central Asia from there eventually having to fly or hopefully take a boat from Aktau (Kaz) to Iran/Azerbaijan
2. Enter Pakistan and cycle to the southwest into Iran and west from there, skipping Central Asia (which I really don’t want to do and Pakistan apparently has a lot of escorts etc through the southwest & Balochistan)

Many thanks,

David
